Academic Excellence and Personalization in World Language Classrooms

World Language

Academic excellence looks different for each learner. Students benefit from a wide variety of learning experiences that help them make progress towards intended learning outcomes. A walkthrough of World Language classrooms would yield a truly rich presentation of personalized instructional practices that engage all learners. In one 6th grade classroom, students are enthusiastically singing (and dancing!) in order to learn the Spanish speaking countries and capitals. In the next classroom, they are competing with one another in an online game about the same topic. Down the hall in 7th grade they are participating in a  “Snow Ball Fight'' to practice summarizing a novel using their classmates' starting sentences. While the learning looks different in each classroom, everyone is growing in their ability to communicate in another language.
