The Jenkins Journal

Dear Jenkins Family,
One of the treasured, long-standing Jenkins traditions is “Being ‘Fin’tastic” and our Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) shark awards. Our monthly themes have been updated to reflect our students' multiple intelligences, including attributes such as creativity and sportsmanship. There are several ways that we recognize our students' positive efforts each month which include:
- Individual Shark Awards - Classroom teachers nominate students from their homerooms who embody the monthly theme. Every student will be recognized once this school year for the theme that the teacher believes best suits each child! The students are recognized at our monthly Shark Assembly and receive a certificate to take home.
- Fifth Grade Student Ambassadors - The fifth graders who receive the Shark Award are also the Student Ambassadors for the month. Every fifth grader will be a Student Ambassador this school year. The Student Ambassadors will have a special lunch and complete a school service project.
- Class Shark Awards - Students earn shark tickets and every 10 tickets can be traded in for one shark tooth! Each month, the classes with the most shark teeth win “Jen” and “Ralph”, our stuffed shark mascots. Congratulations to Mrs. Johnson’s and Mrs. MacDonald’s classes for earning September’s classroom awards!
September’s Shark Assembly was combined with the “This is Our House” celebration of Love, Inclusion, and Trust (LIT) with student speakers and artists. This was our first in-person assembly since the pandemic and it was wonderful to have our school community together to celebrate the opening of the school year!
On another note, free breakfast will be available for all elementary students beginning on Wednesday, October 12. Students who need breakfast will first report to their homerooms and then go to the cafeteria anytime between 8:40-9:00 am where they will be supervised by staff.
Thank you for your support of your child’s learning!
Most sincerely,
Mary M. Oldach, MEd., Principal
Student speakers Ryan Beaudin, Collins Gillis, Olive McDemus, Finn Conway, and Sean Swindler spoke at the This is Our House assembly about what Love, Inclusion and Trust (LIT) means to them.
Aoife Clarke, Luca Gainey, Emmitt Maguire, Amberly DeJesus were selected from grades 2-5 to participate in the artist portion of the This Is Our House event in September. . Students' paintings were inspired by the words spoken, the music played, and the energy felt during the assembly. Students used tempera paints on canvas to create their artworks.
