Composting Returns to Jenkins Elementary School

Students learning about composting

Fifth Grade Student Ambassadors learn about our school composting system from Jon Belber of Holly Hill Farms.

  • The fifth grade learned about composting in Mrs. Masterson’s science class and through our school’s partnership with Holly HIll Farms.
  • January’s fifth grade student ambassadors Adelyn Christian, Christian Donovan, Isla Flett, Sawyer Korman, Isabel Miller and Luca Pascarelli-Falcone decided to reintroduce composting to Jenkins for their school community service project!
  • Composting reduces waste and the rich soil will help our school garden grow even better!

  • Student ambassadors presented what can go into the compost buckets at January’s Shark Assembly
  • They came to each lunch to show the buckets and help the students add the right organic items to the buckets.
  • Each fifth grader will have a turn emptying the compost buckets after the last lunch this school year.
  • The rich soil from composting will be added to our school gardens this spring!

Thank you to Mrs. Masterson (5th grade science teacher), Mrs. Fishman and Ms. Fraser (Cafeteria), Mr. Sacchitella (Head Custodian) and Mrs. Antenore and Mrs. Mulcahy (Main Office) for supporting our students’ interest in protecting our environment!
