Superintendent's Leadership Report
Superintendent Burkhead also announced the departure of two beloved staff members who will be taking on new challenges: Darryl David & MarKaveus Barnes. He assured the Committee that hiring the best next METCO leadership team is of the highest priority, along with a transition plan that allows us continued support of our students and families who live in Boston.
Having full confidence that our students, families and program will persevere and thrive, Superintendent Burkhead noted that our vision of METCO is aligned with our district vision and mission which holds that the collective “WE” will work together to inspire, support and challenge all learners. Mr. David and Mr. Barnes have developed a foundation for our program based in trust, including a new Anchor Program and grant opportunity that we look forward to continuing. WE thank both Mr. David and Mr. Barnes for their work and wish them the best.
Assistant Superintendent's Leadership Report
In order to help parents quickly find information through our website, including information about state Frameworks, Asst. Superintendent Driscoll shared some tools that are available like the search tool, family guides, and Cushing/Hatherly MSBA Project:
By using a key word in our search bar, you will be able to go directly to information vs going navigating the menu. Asst. Superintendent Driscoll demonstrated using the words "transportation" and "instrument".
To quickly find information about district academics, the "Academics" department page has many useful links for families.
Two of the most popular links on this page are the Family guides that provide an overview of what students will learn and experience in each grade level in core academic areas and the Standards Navigator link which connects to a tool that helps families navigate the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks.
By using the "Search by Keyword," one can find where that particular word appears in all grades, all subjects, and all standards throughout the Massachusetts Frameworks. Asst. Superintendent demonstrated this tool using the word "love" and noted that a standard with the word "glove" was also included because this tool does in fact pick up exactly what the search asked.
