School/Family Partnerships

School Councils

School Councils are composed of elected and selected representatives from each school’s parent body, school staff and the greater community to serve on the council, as mandated by the 1993 Education Reform Act. School Councils serve as an advisory council to the Principal and have specific responsibilities outlined in the annual school improvement plans that are created to reflect the needs of individual school communities.

The areas identified include curriculum, instruction, assessment, social-emotional development, schedules, structures, and the school budget.

Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC)

SEPAC is a group of parents of Special Education Students whose role is to advise the Director of Special Education. In addition, this group shares resources and facilitates parent workshops such as transition, dyslexia, and summer opportunities for students with disabilities. SEPAC meets every other month virtually. All parents and guardians of students on IEPs are emailed invitations to our meetings.  For more information, contact the Director of Special Education, Michele Boebert at mboebert@scit.org

Parent Teacher Organizations (PTO)

PTOs are volunteer organizations made up of principals, parents, teachers, administrators, and support staff who are dedicated to enhancing the education of our children. The purpose of the PTO is to support the efforts of the teachers and staff to enrich the school experience for our entire community.

Families are encouraged to become involved in their school's PTO programs and activities, which may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Cultural enrichment programs
  • Classroom and school wide volunteer support
  • Fundraising
  • Social events (fairs, family meals, shows, etc.)
  • Field trips
  • Book fairs

LIT Parent/Caregiver Advisory Group

LIT is an acronym standing for Love, Inclusion, and Trust and is at the center of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion efforts at SPS. LITPAG is a collective of staff, parents, and caregivers from each school that meet to serve as an origin for many things connected to love, inclusion, and trust for the school. LITPAG has been an instrumental part of the annual MLK Memorial, LIT Bedtime Stories, PRIDE Month, and our yearly Juneteenth celebration.
