Kim Brown, MassDOT Crossing Guard of the Year

Kim Brown, a dedicated crossing guard at Jenkins Elementary School in Scituate, has been honored with the prestigious Crossing Guard of the Year title by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) in partnership with its Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Program.

Kim's outstanding contributions were highlighted through heartfelt nominations from the Scituate community:

  • "Kim is one of the most friendly and positive people I know, and she is always there when she is needed."
  • "Kim is a valued member of the community and truly cares about our children."
  • "She goes above and beyond in every way to make my child feel safe."

This annual contest, initiated in 2021, seeks to honor the pivotal role of crossing guards in ensuring the safe travels of students and families to schools. With over 500 nominations received for crossing guards serving in 48 communities, it is evident that these individuals play a crucial role in their communities' safety and well-being.  Kim is also a veteran paraprofessional at Jenkins Elementary School and a Scituate resident.

Kim will be formally recognized at the Annual Safe Routes to School Awards Ceremony on Thursday, June 6, 2024, at the Massachusetts State House in Boston.
