Understanding Square Roots with Precision and Estimation

Math students at Gates are excited to use their prior knowledge about precision and estimation to better understand square roots. Students have been working on their visual models of perfect squares so they can make sense of how to express their understanding with algebra. By collaborating with each other and comparing numbers in decimal, fraction, and root form they are challenged to make sense of how these numbers compare to each other. Math is everywhere and our students are showing their math skills each day!
