School/Family Partnerships

Parent Teacher Organizations (PTO)

PTOs are volunteer organizations made up of principals, parents, teachers, administrators, and support staff who are dedicated to enhancing the education of our children. The purpose of the PTO is to support the efforts of the teachers and staff to enrich the school experience for our entire community. 

Families are encouraged to become involved in their school's PTO programs and activities, which may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Cultural enrichment programs
  • Classroom and school wide volunteer support
  • Fundraising
  • Social events (fairs, family meals, shows, etc.)
  • Field trips
  • Book fairs

School Councils

School Councils are composed of elected and selected representatives from each school’s parent body, school staff and the greater community to serve on the council, as mandated by the 1993 Education Reform Act. School Councils serve as an advisory council to the Principal and have specific responsibilities outlined in the annual school improvement plans that are created to reflect the needs of individual school communities.

The areas identified include curriculum, instruction, assessment, social-emotional development, schedules, structures, and the school budget.

Love, Inclusion & Trust Parental/Caregiver Advisory Group (LITPAG)

LITPAG is a volunteer group of parents and caregivers whose mission is to provide perspective and insight on DE&I within the district. LITPAG ultimately provides support for efforts of the SPS DE&I Director.  LITPAG meets monthly and as needed. If interested in joining LITPAG, please email jadams@scit.org
