Students Design Heat Efficient Structures

Students in Environmental Science enjoy designing and building well-insulated model homes that can maintain temperature as an exhibition of learning.  

• Students are given specific criteria and constraints to their building that make them realistic models of homes.  
• Once complete the models are brought outside and tested to see if the interior is able to stay warm.  
• We also hold on to the models until spring and again test to see if they maintain temperature in the sun.  
• Students are asked to be aware of the cost of materials and must consider sustainability of materials used in construction.
